Biblical Focus: Jesus Washing Feet
John 13:14–15 (NLT)
And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.
On the night before He died, Jesus knew that the Father had given Him authority over everything (v. 3). And what did He do with that authority? He got up, wrapped a towel around His waist, and washed His disciples' dirty feet. Including Judas.
This is what Christlikeness looks like. Not a crown, but a towel. In February we embraced Humility. Today we see where humility leads: to service, especially the lowly, unseen, unthanked kind.
The transformed believer does not ask, "Who will serve me?" but, "Whose feet can I wash?" Notice that Jesus washed the feet of those who would soon abandon Him. Peter, who would deny Him. Judas, who would betray Him. Christlike service is not reserved for people who deserve it.
Here is the challenge: what service do you consider beneath you? What task do you avoid because it is invisible, messy, or unappreciated? Whom do you serve only when someone is watching? The towel exposes our pride faster than almost anything.
Jesus did not say, "Admire what I have done." He said, "Do as I have done." Transformation is not complete until it moves from your heart to your hands.
The Practice of Transformation
This week, do one act of hidden, humble service for someone who cannot repay you, and tell no one. If possible, choose someone who has been difficult toward you.
✦ Reflection ✦
What kind of service do you secretly consider beneath you?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You took up a towel. Give me Your humility. Show me whose feet to wash today. Amen.
Christlikeness looks less like a crown and more like a towel.
Help Choose Our 2027 Devotional
As this year of Wrapped in His Presence comes to a close, we're praying about where the Lord is leading us next, and I'd love your help deciding. There are three possible journeys for 2027:
- Refined: The Refiner's Fire (Malachi 3:2–3)
- Abiding Fruit: From Presence to Overflow (Galatians 5:22–23)
- Wounded to Carry: The Ministry of Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:4)
Please pray over them, then vote here for the one that stirs your spirit.
